Workforce Development

Several Australian Universities have campuses based in the Northern Territory to support remote students studying higher education or with research. Two campuses offer Vocational Education and Training program as well as short courses suited to workers needing to maintain current certificates e.g. first aid.

Developing a capable workforce is a key priority for Northern Territory businesses. Many businesses offer work experience and apprenticeship opportunities to help grow local skills.

TRSA was a driver of the Northern Territory’s trial Automotive and Engineering first year apprenticeship program. This program was created in 2014 with the Northern Territory Government, Charles Darwin University and Group Training Northern Territory. The program successfully delivered training and work experience to apprentices. The apprentices completed 21 weeks in automotive and fabrication areas.

TRSA are keen to support similar programs to respond to industry workforce needs.
